Care teams at Larkrise Care Centre in Banbury have been routinely using a specialist UV-activated hand gel to support the home’s hand hygiene training
Glitterbug Potion is a gel applied to hands, wrists and arms before washing with soap and water. The gel clings to easily missed areas and glows purple under UV light, highlighting where further washing is required.
OSJCT Assistant Director of Care Quality, Laura Brooks, said: “We have introduced this fun, but effective way of testing the handwashing techniques of our employees. Each month a sample of our teams use the Glitterbug Potion to ensure they are washing their hands and arms thoroughly. This has been an ideal way to maintain awareness of this essential task which keeps our residents, employees and visitors safe in our homes.”
OSJCT has been using Glitterbug Potion for several years as part of its hygiene training courses. During the pandemic all OSJCT operated care homes in Oxfordshire were provided with supplies of Glitterbug Potion and UV lights to test thorough hygiene practices among care teams, ever vigilant against the risk of transmission of coronavirus or other infectious diseases such as winter flu.
