M-Staphylococcus Broth is used for detection and isolation of Staphylococci by membrane filter technique.

For detection and isolation of Staphylococci by membrane filter technique.

Recommended for selective isolation and identification of pathogenic Staphylococcus aureus by detecting lipase production and mannitol fermentation from clinical and non-clinical specimens as per APHA.

Staphylococcus Agar is a selective medium for the isolation and differentiation of pathogenic Staphylococci. Enzymatic Digest of Casein and Yeast Extract provide amino acids, proteins, carbohydrates, vitamins, and electrolytes. D-Mannitol is the main carbohydrate source, while Lactose is the supplementary one. Dipotassium Phosphate acts as a pH buffer. Sodium Chloride provides electrolytes, maintains osmotic equilibrium, and makes the medium selective for Gram-positive bacteria. Gelatin is included to test liquefaction. Pathogenic Staphylococci grow well on this medium and form golden yellow colonies. Mannitol fermentation is detected by adding a few drops of Bromothymol Blue and looking for a yellow halo on the areas where colonies have been removed. Gelatin liquefaction can be observed as clear zones after flooding the plates with an aqueous solution of Ammonium Sulfate and incubating 10 min at 37 ºC. Agar is the gelifying agent.

Vogel & Johnson Agar is a selective agar medium used for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus and other coagulase-positive, mannitol-fermenting Staphylococci in clinical specimens and food sources. Tryptein and Yeast Extract provide the essential nutrients for bacterial growth. D-Mannitol is the main carbohydrate source. The presence of Tellurite, Lithium Chloride and high concentration of Glycine make the medium selective. Coagulase-positive Staphylococci ferment D-Mannitol, thus acidifying the medium and causing the color shift of the pH indicator Phenol Red from red to yellow, and reduce Tellurite, thus forming a black precipitate in the center of the colony. Therefore, resistant colonies form black colonies surrounded by a yellow zone on this medium.

Rabbit Plasma recovered over EDTA and freeze-dried is used for the detection of staphylocoagulase.

Its use is recommended in the standards NF EN ISO 6888-1 & NF EN ISO 6888-3; NF V08-057-1; and NF EN ISO
22718.

Buttiaux-Brogniart Hypersalted Broth is a double strength enrichment medium for the detection of Staphylococcus aureus in food products, particularly in gelatin used for food and other uses.

Brain-Heart Broth is a buffered nutrient medium used for the culture of a wide variety of aerobic and anaerobic microorganisms including yeasts and molds. It is suitable for the detection of staphylocoagulase.

Baird Parker RPF (RPF = Rabbit Plasma Fibrinogen) Agar is used for the direct detection and enumeration of coagulase positive staphylococci. The medium has the advantage of considerably reducing the number of confirmation tests for the presence of coagulase positive staphylococci particularly when atypical colonies are observed on other selective media. The medium allows the simultaneous enumeration and confirmation to be performed in a single operation.

Mannitol Salt Agar is selective medium for the isolation of pathogenic staphylococci. The medium conforms to the requirements of the Harmonised USP/EP/JP. Chapman showed that adding a high level of sodium chloride to Phenol Red Mannitol Agar allowed for the recovery of pathogenic staphylococci. Pathogenic staphylococci produced yellow colonies whereas non-pathogenic staphylococci produced small red colonies.
Pancreatic digest of casein, peptic digest of animal tissue and beef extract provide the required nitrogen, carbon and vitamins. The high level of sodium chloride inhibits most organisms other than staphylococci. Mannitol is a carbohydrate that is fermented by coagulase positive staphylococci. Phenol red is the pH indicator.
